What resides in the words of poetry

While words are a means of communication, the "language of poetry" reveals aspects of the world in ways that differ from the ones we normally use. In an information-saturated society where even culture is treated as an object of consumption, what exactly is it that resides in the act of reading and writing poetry, and the very words of poetry? This book explores the potential of the "language of poetry" to transform our world from a variety of perspectives, including poets, philosophers, folklorists, and architects. It includes an interview with Jin Eun-young, a leading figure in the Korean contemporary poetry scene who has been a sympathetic supporter of the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster; film director Mika Sasaki's account of her stay in Bengal, the beloved land of the poetic saint Tagore; an essay and new poem by poet Sayaka Osaki about poets in leprosy sanatoriums; and philosopher Tetsuya Furuta's discussion of Wittgenstein's theory of language and the understanding of language. (Published by Kokuyo, distributed by Gakugei Publishing, with production cooperation from Kurotorisha)
